Geschichte und Bedeutung:

Fischereiindustrie Geschichte Grimsby

Gebaut im Jahr 1957, war die Ross Tiger ein sogenannter "Side-Winder"-Trawler, der in den 1950er Jahren eine bedeutende Rolle in der Fischereiindustrie von Grimsby spielte. Sie gilt als der älteste erhaltene Diesel-Side-Winder-Trawler im Vereinigten Königreich.

Nach ihrer Außerdienststellung im Jahr 1984 wurde die Ross Tiger 1992 als Museumsschiff restauriert und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Seitdem dient sie als lebendiges Denkmal für die Fischer von Grimsby und ermöglicht Besuchern, das Leben an Bord eines traditionellen Trawlers zu erleben.

Ausstattung und Ausstellungen:

An Bord der Ross Tiger können Besucher verschiedene Bereiche des Schiffes erkunden, darunter die Kombüse, die Messe, die Kabinen und das Steuerhaus. Originale Ausstattungen und Ausrüstungen vermitteln ein authentisches Bild des Lebens und Arbeitens der Besatzung.

Das Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, zu dem die Ross Tiger gehört, bietet zudem weitere Ausstellungen und Sammlungen, die die Geschichte der Fischerei in der Region dokumentieren. Dazu gehören Kunstwerke, archäologische Funde, Schiffsmodelle und weitere Artefakte, die das reiche maritime Erbe von Grimsby widerspiegeln.

Besondere Veranstaltungen:

Im Jahr 2023 feierte die Ross Tiger ihr 30-jähriges Bestehen als Museumsschiff. Anlässlich dieses Jubiläums wurden verschiedene Veranstaltungen und Aktivitäten organisiert, um die Bedeutung des Schiffes für die lokale Gemeinschaft und die Fischereiindustrie zu würdigen.

The tour of the Ross Tiger must not be missed! Our tour guide Bob was very informative, characterful, engaging, and insightful. The vessel itself is an incredible example of a bygone era and generations of industry and culture. It would be incredible to see the decks restored to contemporaneous wood. Don't miss out. Visit, take the tour, and learn about what life was like for generations of working people in Grimsby!

I walk past this trawler alot, sit by the benches and listen to the water. Absolutely fantastic and you can hear her horn from anywhere in grimsby 😁 I have not been inside for a tour yet but I really hope to in the future.

We visited the Grimsby fishermen’s heritage museum mid April 2023 it’s a museum about the way of life for trawler men in Grimsby , it is extremely well presented. There is also a very nice coffee shop. I would recommend a visit to the museum. But following on from the museum a guided tour of the side trawler the Ross Tiger and a tour not to be missed, the guide was (Bob I believe)an ex skipper of trawlers and extremely informative with explanations of how a trawler operated , and his stories of some of his experiences .An outstanding experience if you get the opportunity do visit it’s well worth the time. I would like to think that as part of Grimsby’s heritage the Council will help with the upkeep of this fascinating part of Grimsby’s history for generations to come. 2•5 Hours spent and worth every second.

I sailed on the Ross Tiger many years ago now. She is a loverly ship . Back in the early 70s we had some great catches back then and the crew got on great with each other most of the time. If you have never been on the Ross Tiger it well worth the visit . The council was given this ship for only £1 as far as I am aware. Like someone eles as said the ship is starting to sink . We already lost the Lincoln castle steam ferry ⛴️ a few years ago that was a desirable ferry boat and was sold for scrap. If the council don't start to repair the Ross Tiger then this ship will end up in a scrap heap . . We know it will cost alot to fix her up . But for how long it's been owned by the council I don't think they have ever spent a penny on her . What a disgrace. Do you people want to see her scraped. I know I do not .

Had a tour round this. Fascinating and for me nostalgic as I used to own "Baconsdozen" a ships chandler in Lowestoftcwhen it too had a fishing fleet. Well worth a visit.

This once proud vessel is now sinking into the mud due to council incompetence, she has a rich history of fishing and used as a spy ship during the cold War but now is left to rot away outside of the fishing heritage centre. This fine vessel will be sold as scrap if nothing is done soon.

We just had time to take the tour of this old trawler. It's an interesting and unusual experience. If you get the chance to look around and if you are able to go up and down steep steps. Then give it a go.

From a large fishing family and had a brother who sailed aboard the Ross Tiger so finally went on the tour.absolutely fascinating. Ex Skipper gave a fascinating account of what it was like for the fishermen on a daily basis. Should have done this tour years ago. And to find that he knew at least 2 of my 4 brothers who fished was a bonus. Would highly recommend this.
