Militärgeschichtliches Museum in Suffolk

A fantastic place, run my a team of friendly, knowledgeable volunteers. A museum full of history around the base and various pieces from over the years (WW2 right to modern day), easy to spend an hour just looking around. The best part of the day though is the visit to the Hardened Air Shelter and the planes. You also drive around 2 miles to it from the Museum so get a good idea of just how big the airfield actually is as you skirt the runway and go to the far side of the operational base. The planes, wow, just wow. Where else can you get up close to a Phantom with no ropes around it and appreciate the sheer size of it. Not only that but you're welcome to jump inside the front of the cockpit and see what it would have been like flying it (cramped!). The Hunter and Meteor are fantastic too and the Scout helicopter currently being restored is a nice touch, even the cold war hangar itself is mightily impressive. The volunteers are happy to talk you through the planes and are incredibly knowledgeable, we could have spent hours there! All in all, a fantastic 2/3 hours. It's free to do but must be booked and they rely on donations to keep it going which we were more than happy to do! Thanks to all involved :)
