We were severed by Shiv who is amazing not only serving the food and drink but nice chat with me and my husband. Very friendly and exactly know how to treat the customer. We will definitely come back here not only because of food but the hospitality we received from Shiv and everyone else.

We had high expectations when booking the set menu for two at Benares, given its Michelin-star reputation. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short. The set menu included a sparkling cocktail, which not only tasted unpleasant but was also served in an inappropriate glass—not what you’d expect from a fine-dining establishment. For the vegetarian option, the online menu listed jackfruit biryani, but upon arrival, we were informed it was not available. When we questioned this, the server casually explained that the online menu takes time to update. A Michelin-starred restaurant should ensure accuracy in its offerings—especially when guests make dining choices based on the advertised menu. The mains were accompanied by dal and a vegetable of the day, meant to be shared between two. Shockingly, the portions were so tiny that they barely amounted to a teaspoon each—completely unacceptable. Beyond the food, the service was mediocre, the atmosphere unimpressive, and the pricing excessive for what was offered. Overall, a hugely disappointing experience and certainly not worth the cost.

Our first trip to London…Benares came highly recommended by friends and family. We loved the experience…beautiful restaurant and gorgeous decor. Priya was most helpful and made the dinner experience even better with her suggestions and her quiet, pleasant manner. The food was delicious and we will be back here for sure.

We tried the Veg Tasting Menu at Benares recently and were genuinely blown away by how amazing each and every course tasted. Hands down the best Indian fine dining restaurant in town. If you want to have tasty authentic indian food in London, you have to give Benares a shot 🙌🙌

Great atmosphere not to loud can sit and have a chat quite relaxing. Ordered from the set menu - chicken soup - great flavour - kebab - great very soft and tender - the butter chicken was a winner it was smoked - lamb curry was a bit to spicy for me it was alright - crème brule was perfect - got a brownie on the house for my birthday

We had been gifted a generous gift voucher to dine here. Service was lovely and all drinks and food was good. Especially the mains of the lamb shank and palak paneer were super tasty. The garlic naan was amazing and we loved the chocolates given at the end. Too full to enjoy dessert (though the menu sounded great). Would recommend for a special occasion :)

Visited on a Saturday for lunch and enjoyed the well priced set lunch menu. I would say that the atmosphere was slightly lacking when we visited, but have found that to be the case sometimes in west end restaurants on weekend lunchtimes. Can imagine the large and slightly dark dining room being a bit more buzzy on a Friday night. Food was faultless though, with both me and my partner enjoying every course we had. The highlight for me was the tandoori quail and some delicious desserts.

A Disappointing Michelin Experience My wife and I recently dined at Benares, a Michelin-starred establishment I'd been eager to try. While the food was… fine (more on that later), the overall experience was significantly marred by truly disappointing service, specifically from our assigned waiter. From the outset, things felt off. We were seated at a corner table with an awkward layout, making conversation a bit of a logistical challenge. While I understand restaurants have to utilize their space, this particular spot felt less like a coveted corner and more like an afterthought. However, the real issue was our waiter's attitude. There was a distinct air of condescension, an assumption that we were somehow out of place. Perhaps it was our demeanor, or perhaps it was just a bad night, but the underlying feeling was that she didn't believe we belonged there. The most egregious example of this was her repeated questioning about our experience with Michelin-starred restaurants. It felt less like genuine curiosity and more like an attempt to catch us out. To her surprise, we were able to discuss menus and dishes from numerous Michelin-starred restaurants in London, a conversation she clearly hadn't anticipated. Frankly, it was uncomfortable and frankly, baffling. We were dressed formally, just as other diners were, and I simply can’t fathom where this assumption of our inexperience came from. Now, about the food. It was… okay. Certainly well-executed, with some interesting flavors, but it didn't quite live up to the Michelin star hype, especially given the price point. Honestly, the memory of the meal is overshadowed by the unpleasantness of the service. The other staff members we interacted with were polite and efficient, so I can only hope this waiter's behavior was an isolated incident. However, it significantly impacted our evening. I sincerely hope that Benares takes note of this feedback. Customers who dine at Michelin-starred restaurants expect a certain level of service and respect, regardless of perceived background or experience. We certainly paid the prices expected of such an establishment and while the food was adequate, the service was far from it. A truly disappointing experience, and one that makes me hesitant to recommend Benares to others.

I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant for any occasion. While the service and atmosphere were genuinely pleasant, the food fell far short of expectations. Despite ordering a wide variety of dishes, most were barely average, with none standing out as exceptional. For the price point, there are far better options with significantly superior food. Sadly, the overall experience just didn’t justify the cost.
