Area Monumentale Di Lace
Museum | Donato | Piemonte | Italy
The Monumental Area of Lace in Donato, Piedmont, is a significant monument that commemorates a tragic incident during World War II. On the night of January 29, 1945, German troops, with the support of Mongolian soldiers, attacked the headquarters of the VII Divisione Garibaldi "Piemonte" and the 76th Brigade "Togni". Two partisans were killed in this attack, while twelve others were captured and later murdered in Ivrea and Cuorgnè.
Memorial and Events
To commemorate this event, a memorial stone was erected on the road to Lace in 1965. In 1996, the ANPI Valle Elvo-Sierra and the municipality of Donato initiated the creation of a monumental memorial site. Under the direction of architects Franco Nasengo and Franco Fortunato, the destroyed partisan headquarters were restored and a green area was created. The memorial site was inaugurated in April 1999 and is located in a panoramic position on the slope of Lace.
Annually, especially on the night of January 29, commemorative events are held here to honor the victims and keep the memory of the partisan movement alive. These events often include readings, songs, and moments of reflection.
The Monumental Area of Lace serves as an important place of remembrance and is particularly suitable for guided visits by schools and organized groups.
