Mulin du Detu
Museum | Giaveno | Piemonte | Italy
The "Mulin du Detu" in Giaveno is a historical water mill museum that plays a significant role in the tradition and history of the region. Built in 1218, the mill is an outstanding example of the industrial and artisanal development of the Piedmont region. Originally used as an abbey mill for the Benedictine monks of the Sacra di San Michele monastery, it was later restored in the 19th century and transferred into family ownership.
The museum is part of the Ecomuseum of Alta Val Sangone and highlights the importance of mills in rural economy. It depicts the processes of grain milling and shows how wheat was turned into daily bread, a central element of peasant culture. Through exhibitions, workshops, and events, visitors can learn about the historical function of the mill and understand how mills shaped social and economic daily life.
