The village museum Gufidaun, also known as Museo locale di Gudon, is located in the historic "Pfleghaus" of Gufidaun, a district of the municipality of Klausen in the Eisack Valley, South Tyrol. It was opened in 2000 and offers a comprehensive insight into the rural life and traditions of the region.

History and Background

The "Pfleghaus" was used in the Middle Ages as accommodation for the bailiff and now houses the village museum. The collection was built with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of Gufidaun and its surroundings and making it accessible to the public.

Collection and Exhibitions

The museum spans several floors and presents various thematic areas:

Peasant living culture: Replica of a traditional "Stube" with original furniture and household items that illustrate the life of the peasant population.

Kitchen: The reconstructed "Russküche" shows the historical cooking method, where the walls are blackened by smoke.

Craftsmanship: A fully equipped shoemaker's workshop provides insights into the craft of shoemaking.

Art and Culture: A special section is dedicated to the life and work of the painter Josef Telfner, who lived in Gufidaun and created numerous works.

Activities and Events

In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum regularly organizes cultural events such as workshops, lectures, and temporary exhibitions that promote understanding and appreciation of the region's cultural heritage.

The village museum Gufidaun is thus an important place for the preservation and transmission of the cultural heritage of Gufidaun and its surroundings, offering visitors a unique insight into the history and traditions of the region.
