Trabocco delle Bocchette
Museum | Pisa | Tuscany | Italy
The "Trabocco delle Bocchette" in Pisa is a historic structure that was originally built as a drainage canal for the Arno River. In 1568, during the rule of Cosimo I de' Medici, the "Trabocco d'Arno" was constructed to prevent flooding by diverting water into the surrounding area. This massive canal spanned 31 arches and was a significant engineering feat of the time.
Today, some of these arches are still visible, particularly in the garden of Cottolengo in Fornacette on Via Toscoromagnola. These remnants provide a fascinating glimpse into the engineering of the 16th century and the efforts to protect the city of Pisa from floods.
