Stua del fiume Padola (diga artificiale del 1521)
Museum | Padola | Veneto | Italy
The "Stua del Fiume Padola" in Padola is a historic, artificial dam building that played a significant role in the regional timber industry and economy. The "Stua" is a type of weir specifically constructed for timber rafting on the Padola River. Its purpose was to safely and efficiently transport large quantities of timber downstream that had been cut in the mountains.
The Stua is one of the oldest known facilities of its kind in the region, with documents dating back to 1521 confirming its existence. Over the centuries, it has been renovated multiple times and owned by various families, including the Zoldan and Riboli families. Particularly noteworthy is that it remained operational until the 19th century, when it was rebuilt with stone blocks.
